About:

InterPride was founded in Boston, Massachusetts, as the National Association of Lesbian and Gay Pride Coordinators, where in the fall of 1982 representatives from about half a dozen US Pride Organizations gathered together to network. Since then, an annual conference has been held, in a different city, and attendance has steadily grown.

As the movement for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender equal rights has grown over the years, so have Pride Events and InterPride.  As the events have become more international in scope, the organization changed its name to the International Association of Lesbian and Gay Pride Coordinators.  By that time delegates from Canada, Mexico and the United Kingdom were attending the conference.

By 1997, expanded outreach had made the organization truly global and the conference in New York City was attended by representatives of 73 Pride Organization from 18 countries.  The next year in West Hollywood, California the conference voted to add Bisexual and Transgender to the name of the organization.  The 1999 conference in Glasgow, Scotland, the first conference held off the North American Continent, the organization changed its name to InterPride to consolidate and better reflect its international structure.  Two years later in Auckland, New Zealand, the Prime Minister of New Zealand welcomed the delegates to the 2001 conference, the first one held in the southern hemisphere.  The 2003 conference in Montréal, Quebec, was the first time the conference was held in a city where English is not the primary language.  Pride organizers from around the world arrived at the 2004 conference in Reykjavik, Iceland, the first time in a country where the national language is not English.

The 2007, 2008, and 2009 the InterPride Conferences were held in Zurich, Switzerland, Vancouver British Columbia, St Pete Pride Florida, respectively.

Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride, Inc. is proud to have been selected as the host for the 2010 InterPride Conference.  This will make the second time that the conference has been hosted in Long Beach as it was also held here in 1992.

InterPride is incorporated in the State of Texas in the USA and is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization under US law.  It is funded by membership dues, sponsorship, merchandise sales and donations from individuals and organizations.

InterPride is governed by a Board of Directors with two representatives from each of 20 geographical regions of the world.  The member organizations from each region elect their own Directors.  The Board then elects an Executive Committee of nine officers.
InterPride is most visible on the World Wide Web.  It also selects an annual International LGBT Pride Theme. InterPride licenses the title World Pride, the first of which was held in Rome in July 2000 and the second was in Jerusalem in 2006.
